Resumo: | The article analyzes three experiences ofclasses that I lived at different momentsof my teaching career. In all three, the useof images in History class is the fundamentalconcern. History as a disciplinewas born with writing as its main sourceof knowledge. The relationship of historicalresearch with images is recent andcomplex and is reflected in some way indifferent trends in history teaching. Thiscomplexity appears clearly in the experiencesthat I am going to analyze. I wantthe images that I use in my classes tohave a central role as a way of approachingthe past and not as a simple illustrationof the oral or written story of theclass. Images from the past are like reflectionsin mirrors. These mirrors are humanproducts that are intended to reflectin a certain way. Understanding the complexityof the mirror – of the image of thepast – is the question. |

Em todos os três, o uso de imagens na aula de História é a preocupação fundamental. A história como disciplina nasceu tendo a escrita como sua principal fonte de conhecimento. A relação da pesquisa histórica com as imagens é recente e complexa e se reflete de alguma forma em diferentes tendências do ensino de história. Essa complexidade aparece claramente nas experiências que vou analisar. Quero que as imagens que utilizo nas minhas aulas tenham um papel central como forma de abordar o passado e não como simples ilustração da história oral ou escrita da turma. Imagens do passado são como reflexos em espelhos. Esses espelhos são produtos humanos que se destinam a refletir de uma determinada maneira.
