Resumo: The Brazilian evaluation system of graduate programs has been developing over time and it is premised on forming human resources and generating knowledge for the development of the country. This paper aims to analyze the evaluation system of the Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB) and the evaluation system of the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (Capes) and its use by program coordinators. The research method was the study of multiple cases, considering eight programs: four in the United States and four in Brazil. The main results indicate differences in the design and use of the systems for the evaluation of programs in both countries. In the United States, the evaluation system is similar to the purpose of ISO systems, and it is focused on the process of evaluation. In Brazil, the programs must be recomemended by CAPES. It is a legal requirement that ensures the validity of the master’s and doctorate at the national level. The evaluation system of CAPES is a ranking system, which is focused on product and not on the process.
