Resumo: The decree by the Ministry of Education nº 2.117, on December 06, 2019 (BRASIL, 2019), provides that up to 40% of the credit hours of on-site programs can be offered in the Distance Education (DE) modality. Given this expansion and the changes that result from this new potential structure, a study was carried out with professors who teach in on-site programs and began to teach DE courses as well, with the goal of analyzing their experience in this modality. This investigation, with an exploratory qualitative approach, used the technical procedures of a case study in a private university, with professors answering questionnaires for data collection, which were later submitted to discourse textual analysis. The results showed that this educational option was included by invitation of program chairs or by an institutional selection that valued prior experiences in this environment. The professors indicated flexibility of time and space in DE as positive factors, while also stating difficulties such as active student participation and the accumulation of tasks in this context. Keywords: Distance education. Teaching training.

Keywords: Distance education. Teaching training.
