Resumo: The objective of this paper is to analyze whether a low computer literacy observed prior the access to a Higher Education course based on Online Distance Learning (ODL) can increase the chances of problems in educational progression. For this, a survey was applied, in 2021, among students of the Computer Engineering and Production courses of the Virtual University of the State of São Paulo (UNIVESP). With the participation of 213 students, it was found, through statistical probability models, that lower computer literacy is not statistically associated with higher failed subject probability. However, it was observed, among students with lower computer literacy, higher chances of thoughts of dropping out of the course, even after controlling for different socioeconomic characteristics of these students. Keywords: Computer literacy. Educational progression. Distance education. Higher education.
