Cognitive Styles and Learning Strategies of Students of a Degree in Computing in the Modality of Distance Education

Resumo: This paper presents a discussion about the cognitive styles and learning strategies of a group of students of a Bachelor's Degree in Computing, taught in the Distance Education modality. In the General Didactics discipline, students responded to an instrument, which establishes the dominant cognitive styles of each student. In addition, each student, through a discussion forum, presented their learning strategies, especially in the context of EaD. Ten of the twenty-seven students enrolled in the course participated in the forum. Of the ten participating students, four were included in the reflective style and the same number in the divergent style. Two students were classified as a convergent style and one student had a cognitive style classified as holist, as well as one student as serialist. The sum of students here is greater than the ten participants, as a student can have more than one dominant style. The research methodology adopted was qualitative, based on content analysis. As the course is taught in the EaD modality, with mostly asynchronous activities, students need to establish a study routine, so that they can follow the classes and activities. Among the study strategies, most students highlighted video lessons as a way to deepen their knowledge. In addition, students highlighted the importance of seeking additional sources of study, as well as combining theory and practice.   Keywords: Cognitive styles. Learning strategies. Distance education.  Este artigo apresenta uma discussão acerca dos estilos cognitivos e estratégias de aprendizagem, de um grupo de alunos de um Curso de Licenciatura em Computação, ministrado na modalidade de Educação a Distância. Na disciplina de Didática Geral, os alunos responderam a um instrumento, que estabelece os estilos cognitivos dominantes de cada estudante. Além disso, cada aluno, por meio de um fórum de discussão, apresentou suas estratégias de aprendizagem, especialmente no contexto da EaD. Participaram do fórum, dez dos vinte e sete alunos matriculados na disciplina. Dos dez alunos participantes, quatro ficaram compreendidos no estilo reflexivo e, esse mesmo número, no estilo divergente. Dois alunos ficaram compreendidos no estilo convergente e um aluno teve o estilo cognitivo classificado como holista, bem como um aluno como serialista. A soma de alunos aqui é maior do que os dez participantes, já que um aluno pode ter mais do que um estilo dominante. A metodologia de pesquisa adotada foi qualitativa, com base na análise de conteúdo. Como o curso é ministrado na modalidade de EaD, com atividades em sua maioria assíncronas, os alunos precisam estabelecer uma rotina de estudos, para que possam acompanhar as aulas e atividades. Entre as estratégias de estudo, a maioria dos alunos destacou as videoaulas como uma forma de aprofundar o conhecimento. Além disso, os alunos destacaram a importância de buscar fontes de estudo adicionais, bem como aliar teoria e prática.    Palavras-chave: Estilos cognitivos. Estratégias de aprendizagem.
