Transposing Blended to Remote Learning: Experience Report in a Postgraduate Program in Health Sciences

Resumo: “Experimental Models of Cardiometabolic Diseases” is an optative blendeddiscipline that has been offered during the last three years by theGraduate Program in Cardiovascular Science at the Universidade FederalFluminense. The purpose of this article is to describe and discuss theplanning, strategies, and tools chosen to adapt the discipline to onlinelearning in the period of social isolation imposed by the pandemic of thenew coronavirus. The tools chosen were Google Meet® for synchronousactivities and the learning management system (LMS) EDMODO® forcommunicating with students and providing educational resources andtasks. Forums, tasks, simulated jury, and seminar were held. Studentsalso had access to instructional videos about the LMS and an online folderwith papers for studying. All students were able to interact in the LMS.Each forum lasted one week, and there was an intense conversationduring both the first and last two days. In the simulated jury, the studentsreported that they had studied for the activity and liked the proposal.Regarding the interactivity of the asynchronous seminar, it mainly occurrednear to the end of the established deadline. The course evaluation formshowed great acceptance of the proposed activities. Overall, theadaptation of the discipline for online learning was effective, both in thestudent’s and teacher’s view. There was the active participation ofstudents, who evaluated as positive the discipline format, recommendingits maintenance. Keywords: Online education. Healthteaching.A disciplina optativa “Modelos Experimentais de DoençasCardiometabólicas” é oferecida há três anos pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu em Ciências Cardiovasculares daUniversidade Federal Fluminense em formato híbrido. O objetivodeste artigo é relatar e discutir o planejamento, as estratégias e asferramentas utilizadas para adaptar esta disciplina para ofertaintegralmente online no período de isolamento social imposto pelapandemia do novo coronavírus. As ferramentas utilizadas foram oGoogle Meet® para atividades síncronas e o ambiente virtual deaprendizagem (AVA) EDMODO® para a comunicação com osalunos e disponibilização de recursos educacionais e tarefas. Foramrealizados fóruns, tarefas, júri simulado e seminário, sendodisponibilizados vídeos explicativos sobre o AVA e um banco deartigos para estudo. Todos os alunos conseguiram interagir no AVA.Nos fóruns com duração de uma semana, houve uma intensa Revista EaD em Foco, 2020, v.11: e1298 2conversação nos dois primeiros e dois últimos dias do prazoestabelecido. No júri simulado, os alunos relataram que estudarampara a atividade e gostaram da proposta. No que concerne àinteratividade do seminário assíncrono, esta ocorreumajoritariamente próxima ao final do prazo estabelecido. Oformulário de avaliação da disciplina mostrou grande aceitação dasatividades propostas. Considera-se que a adaptação da disciplinapara a educação online foi eficaz, tanto na visão discente quantodocente. Houve participação ativa dos alunos, que avaliarampositivamente o formato digital da disciplina, recomendando a suamanutenção. Palavras-chave: Educação online.
