Resumo: | This experiential report discusses the relationship between quality in education and democratic school management, under the focus of participation of the school community. Some experiences are discussed of the use of Indicators of Quality in Education throughout Brazil, describing the experience developed in the municipal education system in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, in 2005. The Indicators of Quality in Education are the result of partnerships between Ação Educativa, Unicef, UNDP, the Ministry of Education/National Institute of Educational Studies and Research (INEP) and a set of institutions representing the area. This project was created in 2003 to contribute to improving quality in the school, allowing problems to be identified, favoring understanding of challenges and, especially, opening space for community involvement the assessment process. Considering the results of the municipality of Ituiutaba, there is notably still little conviction regarding democratic participation as the best model for school management as well for the municipal system. The majority of people did not demonstrate that they had appropriated the basics to carry out a qualified reflection regarding these themes. The report concluded that building democratic management is not linear and uniform; democracy is a principle and a horizon. |

Apresenta algumas experiências de uso dos Indicadores da Qualidade na Educação em todo o Brasil e descreve a experiência desenvolvida na rede municipal de ensino de Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, em 2005. Os Indicadores de Qualidade na Educação são resultado de parcerias entre Ação Educativa, Unicef, Pnud, MEC/INEP e um conjunto de instituições representativas da área. Esse projeto foi criado, em 2003, para contribuir com a melhoria da qualidade na escola, permitindo a identificação de problemas, favorecendo a apreensão dos desafios e, principalmente, abrindo espaço para o envolvimento da comunidade no processo de avaliação. Considerando os resultados do município de Ituiutaba, destaca-se que ainda existe pouca convicção sobre a participação democrática como o melhor modelo para a gestão escolar e também para o sistema municipal. A maior parte das pessoas demonstrou não ter se apropriado de fundamentos para realizar uma reflexão qualificada acerca desses temas.
