Resumo: | This text discusses ideas on education and the city. To do this, it introduces concepts of education, in a broad sense, and of academic education, in a stricter sense. It is argued that academic education is an intentional process aimed at modifications in knowing, in learning, in thinking and in being emotionally involved. It links school, city and education, emphasizing that the city is always educational. Cities are complex human arrangements and, in them, there are always schools. And the schools gain more and more importance in the life of the cities. The academic institution plays a prominent role as an agency of education; it educates for the city and bears the features of urban life, keeping in mind the needs of these features. The text concludes that city and school are thus closely connected, as are students, teachers and parents. |

Relaciona escola, cidade e educação, enfatizando que a cidade é sempre educadora. Cidades são arranjos humanos complexos e, nelas, há sempre escolas. E as escolas ganharam importância cada vez maior na vida das cidades. A instituição escola tem papel destacado como agência de educação; ela educa para a cidade e é marcada pelas características da vida urbana, tendo em vista às suas necessidades.
