Teaching Profession and Labour market: motivations and dilemmas in the professional choice

Resumo: | The paper deals with the issue of the professional choice and its relations with the labour market. It has a double focus: the initial experiences of teachers formed by the University of Sao Paulo (1994- I 995) and the transition from the university to the labour market. Research data were collected through two questionnaires and fourteen semistructured interviews. The construction of the theoretical framework starts from the Bohoslavsky' works (1983, 1987) and the sociological theory of Bourdieu (1990, 1992, 1994, 2001). The analysis approaches the choice of undergraduate courses and the influencies the students receive from the family and schooling. It also discusses the teacher education of USP and the students low motivation for its courses for teachers' training. At the heart of the article is the theme of work: the motivotions and dilemmas faced by the teachers along their first years after the undergraduation course vis-à-vis the influencies from the labour market, that appears as the main factor of decision in their professional career. |

Analiza la experiencia de un grupo de licenciados de la USP que concluyeran sus cursos en 1994 Y 1995. Enfoca la transicion de la universidad para el mundo del trabajo. Los datos fueran obtenidos traves de dos cuestionarios y de entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas con 14 egresos de diferentes cursos. En la construcción del referencial teorico se utilizo como punto de partida los trabajos de Boholavsky (1983, 1987) sobre la escoja profesional y la teoria sociologica de Bourdieu (1990, 1992, 1994, 2001) para interpretar como son procesadas las escojas. Intenta discutir las influencias de la familia y de la escolarizacion. Tambien aborda la formacion de 105 profesores de La USP y el bojo prestigio de la licenciatura. Las molivaciones y los dilemas vividos por los profesores durante los primeros años de formados delante de las influencias del mercado de trabajo son los factores preponderantes para el desarrollo de sus carreras profesionales.O artigo examina a questao da escolha profissional e suas relacoes com o mercado de trabalho. Analisa a experiencia de um grupo de licenciados da USP formados em 1994 e 1995, focalizando a transicao da universidade para o mundo do trabalho. Os dados foram colhidos por meio de dois questionarios e de entrevistas realizadas semi-estruturadas realizadas com quatorze egressos de diferentes cursos. Na construção do referencial teorico tomou-se como ponto de partida os trabalhos de Bohoslavsky (1983, 1987) sobre escolha profissional e, a seguir, a teoria sociologica de Bourdieu (1990, 1992, 1994, 2001) para interpretar as formas mediante as quais as escolhas sao processadas. Nas analises busca-se discutir a questao da escolha do curso superior considerando as influencias da familia e da escolarização. Considera-se tambem a formação de professores na USP e o baixo prestigio da licenciatura.
