Human rights education for democratic and inclusive citizenship: How to work at school and by means of Physical Education

Resumo: This paper focuses on the human dignity value and its deriving imperatives as the foundation of the concept of human rights. As a result, it shows Human Rights Education (HRE) as a right in itself and also as a component of the right to education. Following a synthesis of HRE goals, ends and relationship with building a democratic, inclusive and intercultural citizenship, this study points out that school is a privileged institution for its development by diverse means and curricular subjects. Thus, it focus on Physical education in particular, both as a subject and as an extra-curricular activity, taking into consideration HRE in its three dimensions: (a) as care and attention to the body and its movements; (b) as an incentive to more active contact with the natural environment; (c) as collective leasure and desportive activities. This paper concludes that teachers and school activities play a strategical role to explore physical education potential fully in making up a human right culture.

This paper concludes that teachers and school activities play a strategical role to explore physical education potential fully in making up a human right culture.El artículo hace una reflexion sobre el valor de la dignidad humana y los imperativos que se derivan de ella como fundamento del concepto de derechos humanos y tambien presenta la educacion en derechos humanos (EDH) como componente necesario del derecho a la educacion y como derecho en si mismo. Despues de sintetizar las metas, fines y conexiones de la EDH con la educacion para una ciudadania democratica, inclusiva e intercultural se focaliza la escuela como espacio privilegiado para desarrollarla con distintas modalidades y desde diferentes asignaturas. En este sentido, se concentra en analizar el gran potencial de la educacion fisica - 0sea como asignatura o como actividad extracurricular - a partir de tres dimensiones de su campo de trabajo: (a) la atencion y cuidado del cuerpo y sus movimientos, (b) el contacto y las relaciones con la naturaleza y (c) las actividades lúdicas y deportivas de caracter colectivo. Finalmente analiza el rol decisivo del docente y sus practicas pedagogicas para hacer realidad el potencial de la educacion fisica en la construcción de una cultura de derechos.Este artigo faz uma reflexão a respeito do valor da dignidade humana e os imperativos dela emanados como fundamento do conceito de direitos humanos, assim como apresenta a educação em direitos humanos (EDH) como componente necessario do direito à educação e como direito em si mesmo. Depois de sintetizar as metas, fins e conexoes da EDH com a educação para uma cidadania democratica, inclusiva e intercultural, focaliza a escola como espaco privilegiado para desenvolve-la por meio de distintas modalidades e a partir de diversas disciplinas. Neste sentido, concentra-se na analise do grande potencial da Educação Fisica, seja como componente curricular, seja como atividade extra-curricular, a partir de tres dimensoes do seu campo de trabalho: (a) a atencao e o cuidado do corpo e seus movimentos; (b) o contato e as relacoes com a natureza e (c) as atividades lúdicas e desportivas de carater coletivo.
