Resumo: Current study comprises a bibliographical review on body posture, its implication and occupational functions. The bibliographical review was undertaken from scientific articles published between 2000 and 2012 and retrieved from Lilacs, Medline, Scielo and PubMed sites. The descriptor terms posture, anthropology, postural and body equilibrium were used. Posture is directly related to body equilibrium and both have a great importance in movement. Body posture is affected by several factors in the subject and in the environment, which includes aging, functions and occupational interventions. Results show that postural guidance and participation in prevention programs for postural problems are relevant for the maintenance of body health.

A revisão bibliográfica foi realizada a partir de artigos científicos obtidos por meio de sites de busca como Lilacs, Medline, Scielo e PubMed, referente ao período de 2000 a 2012, utilizando-se os seguintes descritores: postura, antropologia, equilíbrio corporal postural. Verificou-se que a postura está diretamente relacionada ao equilíbrio corporal e que ambos são de fundamental importância para o movimento. A postura corporal é influenciada por diversos fatores próprios do indivíduo e também ambientais, o que inclui o envelhecimento, as funções e intervenções ocupacionais. Concluiu-se que a orientação postural, bem como a participação em programas de prevenção de problemas posturais são essenciais para a manutenção da saúde corporal.
