Resumo: Considering that depression is more common in postpartum affective disorder and affects both the mother as the baby’s health, this work was carried out to determine the prevalence of postpartum depression and its risk factors in mothers attended in a public hospital in Maringá-PR. Between 45 and 60 days after normal delivery or c-section, 50 women answered for a scale for the detection of depressive symptoms (Edinburgh Scale) and a questionnaire for assessing psycho social demographic characteristics such as age, marital status, level of education, occupation, number of children , number of prenatal visits, the father's reaction to pregnancy, and if there was an attempt to interrupt the pregnancy. The results were described in a quantitative and analyzed by Fisher's exact test with significance level p
