The theme of this article is risk factors for postpartum depression and the role of nursing. The following problem was investigated: episode of depression, does it manifest itself in the first weeks after childbirth? The following hypothesis was considered: it is a disease with a strong social impact. The general objective is to analyze the factors that lead to postpartum depression and the importance of nursing care in this context. The specific objectives are to evaluate and discuss the importance and performance of nurses in the face of postpartum depression; understand the complexity of the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression; early recognize and conduct the guidelines and referrals of patients diagnosed with postpartum depression. This work is important for the nursing professional due to professional training to act in patient care; for science, it is relevant because it adequately assists women in the face of motherhood; adds to society by the fact of acting with preventive measures, guidance, health education and early identification of the disease. It is qualitative research lasting five months.
