Conceptual Map: An Approach for the Teaching of the Respiratory System Physiology

Resumo: Conceptual maps are diagrams that represent relations among concepts in a hierarchic way. The Biology subject presents many concepts that are difficult for the students to assimilate. Therefore, the present work aimed at presenting a model of conceptual map about the respiratory system, a topic taught at high school, and at evaluating the subject learned by the students while using it as study tool. After the class about the physiology of the respiratory system, a questionary with 5 questions was given to two groups of high school students from a private school in Cascavel, PR, Brazil. After that, a conceptual map about the subject was distributed and it was explained how to fill in the blanks. The corrections were made and the questionary was applied once again. The percentage of correct answers was verified from both questionaries. On both groups there was a significant increase of the percentage of right answers after filling in the conceptual map (group 1, 58% to 76%; group 2, 64% to 88,5%), showing that this is a useful tool for high school students to internalize the physiology of the respiratory system.

No ensino de biologia, há muitos termos científicos e conceitos de difícil assimilação pelos aprendizes. Desta forma, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar um modelo de mapa conceitual sobre o conteúdo de sistema respiratório trabalhado no ensino médio, de maneira a avaliar o conteúdo apreendido pelos alunos ao utilizá-lo como ferramenta de estudo. Após a aula conteudista sobre fisiologia do sistema respiratório, um questionário contendo 5 questões foi aplicado a todos os alunos de duas turmas do 2º ano do ensino médio de uma escola particular de Cascavel - PR. Posteriormente, um mapa conceitual a respeito do conteúdo foi distribuído e explicado o processo de preenchimento. Foi realizada a correção do mesmo. O questionário sobre o conteúdo foi aplicado outra vez e a porcentagem de acertos de ambos os questionários foi verificada.
