Teaching of natural sciences and diversity: emerging epistemologies in Latin American journals

This article addresses the insertion of the teaching of natural sciences in contemporary transversal studies based on the realization of a state of the art in Latin American journals, involving the theme of cultural diversity in the context of knowledge production. Decolonial studies and the notions of emerging epistemologies and epistemologies of the South were used as theoretical contributions in the investigation. The study on publications uses content analysis as a reference and among the main results of the survey, we highlight: the small number of publications related more directly to the natural sciences; the potential of astronomy to address the construction of knowledge from a plural perspective in the field of natural sciences; the greater recurrence of works focused on mathematics, with a view to the development of areas such as ethnomathematics; the use of decolonial perspectives as a theoretical framework applicable to other epistemologies in Latin America.
