Community education in urban contexts: The educational challenge of educating cities

Resumo: | Community education is the theoretical and conceptual framework that responds to the challenges of global educational policy when it comes to guaranteeing the right to education for all. When community education lands in urban contexts, it develops different formats: learning communities, educating cities. An educating city is an urban territory with its own identity that decides to join the worldwide movement of educating cities promoted in the nineties from an international conference that took place in Barcelona (Spain). This commitment to join means that community education is launched: the group of social and educational agents of the city become aware of their educational co-responsibility, and develop concrete actions to articulate support networks and educational dynamism among them. All this dynamic is specified in a educating city project. Educating cities are a social macro-strategy of an inclusive nature, so that all citizens and groups in the city are invited to actively participate in the process. In this sense, the construction of an educating city project, as the backbone of the educating city vision, is a good opportunity to activate meeting and work spaces between people of different cultural, social, religious or linguistic origins. |

Cuando la educación comunitaria aterriza en los contextos urbanos, desarrolla diferentes formatos: comunidades de aprendizaje, ciudades educadoras. Una ciudad educadora es un territorio urbano con identidad propia que decide adherirse al movimiento mundial de ciudades educadoras impulsado en los años noventa a partir de una conferencia internacional que tuvo lugar en Barcelona (España). Este compromiso de adhesión significa que se pone en marcha la educación comunitaria: el conjunto de agentes sociales y educativos de la ciudad toman conciencia de su corresponsabilidad educativa, y desarrollan acciones concretas para articular redes de apoyo y dinamización educativa entre ellos. Toda esta dinámica se concreta en un eje vertebrador de la acción, denominado “Proyecto Educativo de Ciudad”. Las ciudades educadoras son una macroestrategia social de naturaleza inclusiva, por lo que todos los ciudadanos y grupos de la ciudad se ven invitados a participar activamente del proceso. En este sentido, la construcción del Proyecto Educativo de Ciudad, como eje vertebrador de la propuesta de ciudad educadora, es una buena oportunidad para activar espacios de encuentro y de trabajo entre personas de distintos orígenes culturales, sociales, religiosos o lingüísticos.La educación comunitaria es el marco teórico y conceptual que responde a los desafíos de la política educativa mundial a la hora de garantizar el derecho a la educación para todos. Cuando la educación comunitaria aterriza en los contextos urbanos, desarrolla diferentes formatos: comunidades de aprendizaje, Ciudades Educadoras. En este artículo hablamos de cómo las Ciudades Educadoras son una macroestrategia social inclusiva, por lo que se invita a todos los ciudadanos y colectivos de la ciudad a participar activamente en el proceso. En este sentido, la construcción del Proyecto Ciudad Educadora, como eje vertebrador de la propuesta de ciudad educativa, es una buena oportunidad para activar espacios de encuentro y trabajo entre personas de diferentes orígenes culturales, sociales, religiosos o lingüísticos.
