Aiming to understand the importance of multilateral actions in times of crisis, this article was prepared. From the analysis of the projects approved by the New Development Bank in relation to the pandemic during the year 2020, applying the qualitative research method and based on secondary data, the article was developed and divided into 4 parts. In the first one, I present the context of the beginning of the pandemic and how States and Institutions reacted to its crisis. Then, to understand what the NDB is, I explain who the BRICS members are, detailing the reasons that led to its emergence on the international scene. Tracing the turning points that together led to the creation of a Multilateral Development Bank (MDB). In the second part, I explain how the NDB was established, its missions, values, strategies and governance, so that it is clear how decisions are made. Later, I expose the projects approved by the NDB in 2020 in relation to COVID-19, framed in the emergency response category. From this point forward, it will be pointed out what are the intended results after the implementation of the projects, therefore, identifying which actors benefited, taking into account whether the NDB was consistent with its essence as an institution. In the third and fourth part, considering the above information, relate them to the debate on the concept of multilateralism in International Relations. In the third part of the article, the theoretical debate will be presented, with the definitions of different actors, on the role of multilateralism for International Relations and developing States, identifying the transformations that the concept has been undergoing. The realistic view of multilateralism as a resource of the great powers to maintain power, the dependentista view in which multilateralism is domination disguised as cooperation, in addition to the constructivist views in which they see the concept as a transforming phenomenon in IRs. The fourth part is the conclusion, where, based on the above reflections, I answer about the importance of multilateralism for possible solutions to new global crises, pointing out that for greater efficiency, more political will and concessions are needed.
