Studies about internationalization of companies are becoming more common in the academy and organizational area, especially with the globalization which have been increasing faster than ever and reach more markets. Despite the importance of this issue in the organizational context, two approaches have been emphasizing in most of the studies: the behavioral approach and the economical approach. Considering the importance of the internalization, this study addresses the internalization of enterprises in the productive chain of chicken located in the state of Paraná, based on core competences, which have characteristics of both approaches in order to contribute to studies on the subject. The main objective of this study is investigating the relationship between these two theories in the environmental sector. To that end was made an analysis of existing literature on internationalization and the core competences to provide a better understanding on the matter. Through, a muchcase study conducted with three companies, the conclusion was that the line in the relationship between the internationalization of enterprises and the core competences exists, and also the study have indicates that this is an appeal procedure, a way double-handed, because at the same time that the core competences helped the companies with the internalization process, the internalization improves the existing capabilities and developing new competences.
