Resumo: | The aim of this work is to examine the discursive and identity practices of translators and interpreters in an orkut community, a digital social network where discourses, ideologies, simulation, relationships and interest games flow. The corpus of analysis consisted of a digital community on orkut called Tradutores/Intérpretes BR constituted by 8,820 members, a number that grows each new consultation, which purpose is to discuss the professional learning and the labor market of Brazilian translators and interpreters who have the Portuguese Language (from Brazil) as one of their working languages. The theoretical foundation focused on the French Analysis of Discourse from its sources - Pêcheux and Foucault - especially on readings of Foucault (1987, 1992, 1998) on the discursive practices, practices of subjectivity, archieve and techniques of self; in Lévy (1996, 1999) and Lemos (2000, 2004) on the cyberspace; Hall (2002), Bauman (1998, 2001, 2007) and Baudrillard (1981, 1997, 2003) about identity and contemporanity; Castells (1999) regarding the communication; Coracini (2006, 2007), regarding the impact of new technologies and the translator’s identity; and in authors who contributed to the discussions on postmodernity and contemporanity, new technologies and their effects of sense. The results point to the observation that the orkut can be seen as an area in which the translator looks for his/her professional and personal identity or identities, tries to understand who he/she is and who the other involved subjects are. Thus, orkut is no longer a digital social network to be an important area of discursive and social practice regarding to the identity formation to the translator. The discursive and identity practices analyzed point to a multifaceted, conflicting and non-continuous subject who tries to establish his/her professional identity emphasizing flexibility, dynamics, competitiveness, competence and mastery not only of language but also of new information technologies, so speaking of a modern and virtual social place simulated by the virtual hosts that support the discourse. We observed that the translator and interpreter’s subjectivity is constructed through discourses already institutionalized by the global market. The discursive and identity practices within the virtual place show the anxiety of a subject who desire to establish a place and a status of "translation professional" recognized and valued by the society. Therefore, the orkut becomes a marketing tool, a place where the translator and interpreter can create identities simulacrum and gain visibility within the market and in the community. |
