This article aims to explore feeding practices and factors related to the introduction and/or late feeding of babies, and complementary feeding for children older than 6 months and younger than 1 year. To prepare this article, research was used on trusted sites in the health area, such as the virtual health library MS, on google academic and on Scielo. Searches were carried out in books, introductory manuals and magazines. This article presents the importance of breastfeeding for a good healthy development of the baby and the need for food introduction, from the sixth month of life, as guided by health professionals. Thus, it is essential that health professionals always guide parents, emphasizing the importance of breastfeeding up to six months of age, and the successive introduction of healthy foods.
