The teaching profile and interdisciplinarity: studying undergraduate courses in the field of Information Science in Brazil

Resumo: We investigated how interdisciplinary in Information Science influences the faculty profile of undergraduate courses in this field. We conducted an exploratory study, analyzing 504 teachers’ profiles of Information Science undergraduate courses from 27 Brazilian public universities. The official teachers’ curricula available at Lattes Platform were used as the main information source to collect the data. We observed a large concentration of teachers’ profiles with a formal education in the Information Science field. The areas of Education, History, Communication, Computer Science, Administration, Languages, Production Engineering, Sociology, and Museology appear also with relative frequency in the teachers’ profile. We propose some relevant questions for future studies that will permit an improved understanding of the interdisciplinary in Information Science field.

Se realizó un estudio exploratorio, analizando 504 perfiles de profesores que actuaban en cursos de Ciencias de la Información en 27 universidades públicas brasileñas. Los planes de estudio disponibles en la Plataforma Lattes se utilizaron como fuente principal de información para la recopilación de datos. Hubo una gran concentración de perfiles docentes con formación en el campo de las Ciencias de la Información. Las áreas de Educación, Historia, Comunicación, Informática, Administración, Literatura, Ingeniería de Producción, Sociología; y Museología también aparecen con relativa frecuencia. Se proponen preguntas que permitirán una comprensión más profunda de la interdisciplinariedad en el campo de las Ciencias de la Información.Investigou-se como a interdisciplinaridade na Ciência da Informação se desdobra na formação dos corpos docentes de cursos de graduação da área. Realizou-se um estudo exploratório, analisando-se 504 perfis de docentes que atuavam nos cursos da área de Ciência da Informação de 27 universidades públicas brasileiras. Utilizou-se como principal fonte de informação para a coleta dos dados os currículos disponibilizados na Plataforma Lattes. Observou-se grande concentração de perfis docentes com formação no próprio campo da Ciência da Informação. As áreas de Educação, História, Comunicação, Ciência da Computação, Administração, Letras, Engenharia de Produção, Sociologia; e Museologia também aparecem com relativa frequência.
