Social in(ex)clusion: an information professional's view of the various difficulties in accessing information

Resumo: The technological advance aims to facilitate and speed up the access to information, yet by itself it cannot solve all difficulties of access that give rise to some form of exclusion. Based on the professional practice in a university library and observation of several difficulties of users, this work presents a literature-based reflection on some aspects that lead to social exclusion because of difficulties in the access, with marked interest on difficulties related to the use of technologies, which gave rise to the expression digital divide, a phenomenon that has been widely discussed. The presentation of these aspects leads to a reflection on the role of information professionals in this context, as well as on the importance of their training and constant update of their knowledge.

A partir de la práctica profesional en una biblioteca universitaria y la observación de diversas dificultades de los usuarios, se elaboró ​​este trabajo, que presenta una reflexión basada en la literatura sobre algunos aspectos que conducen a la exclusión social por la dificultad de acceso, con un fuerte interés en las dificultades relacionadas con el uso de las tecnologías, problema que dio origen a la expresión brecha digital, fenómeno que ha sido ampliamente discutido. La presentación del problema conduce a una reflexión sobre el papel del profesional de la información en este contexto, y la importancia de su formación y actualización constante de sus conocimientos.O desenvolvimento tecnológico promete facilitar e agilizar o acesso à informação, mas não pode sanar todas as dificuldades de acesso que geram alguma forma de exclusão. A partir da prática profissional em biblioteca universitária e da observação de diversas dificuldades dos usuários, foi elaborado este trabalho que apresenta uma reflexão baseada na literatura sobre alguns aspectos que levam à exclusão social pela dificuldade de acesso, com acentuado interesse pelas dificuldades relacionadas ao uso das tecnologias, problema que deu origem à expressão digital divide, fenômeno que tem sido amplamente discutido.
