Rural schools: a dimensional analysis of the social representations of teachers

Resumo: This article is an excerpt from a broader research project and aims to explore the dimensions (information, attitude and representational field) in the social representations of rural schools built by teachers who work in these institutions. We developed a qualitative field research study    with the collaboration of 35 teachers from a municipality in the countryside of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Through semi-structured interviews with these teachers, we identified elements related to the three dimensions of social representations: information, image, and attitude. The results indicate that these teachers share the social representation of the rural schools as institutions, which favors rural exodus by providing new peasant generations with knowledge access and internalization. In the interviewees' representations, the rural flight is stimulated by supposed advantages that city life can offer. A dimensional analysis of these representations shows an alignment with the assumptions that underlie this dichotomy

A dimensional analysis of these representations shows an alignment with the assumptions that underlie this dichotomyEste artigo, recorte de uma pesquisa mais abrangente, tem como objetivo explorar as dimensões (informação, atitute e campo representacional)  nas representações socias de escola do campo construidas por professores que atuam nessas instituições. Desenvolvemos um estudo qualitativo delineado como pesquisa de campo e contamos com a colaboração de 35 docentes de um munícipio no interior do estado de Pernambuco. Por meio da entrevista semiestruturada, com esses professores, identificamos elementos relacionados às três dimensões das representações sociais:  informação, imagem e atitude. Os resultados indicam que esses docentes compartilham da representação social da Escola do Campo como uma instituição que, ao proporcionar às novas gerações campesinas o acesso e apropriação dos conhecimentos, favorece a migração campo/cidade.
