Strategic importance and power of stakeholders: : an analysis in publicly-traded Brazilian companies

Resumo: The article aims to classify and analyze stakeholders' strategic importance and power in Brazilian publicly traded companies registered with B3. Descriptive analysis with a quantitative approach was used in these companies' GRI reports published in 2018 and 2019. The results suggest a difference between strategic importance and power of primary stakeholders. As for the Strategic Importance of stakeholders, Employees proved to be more important than Customers and Shareholders; and Community proved to be more important than Suppliers. As for the Power of stakeholders, Employees may be more powerful than Customers, who, in turn, may be more powerful than Suppliers. This paper contributes to stakeholder theory in the theoretical and methodological realm by proposing a model to measure these variables. Keywords: Stakeholder Theory, Power, Strategic Importance.

Os resultados sugerem que há diferença entre importância estratégica e poder dos stakeholders primários. Quanto à Importância Estratégica dos stakeholders, Funcionários revelaram-se mais importantes que Clientes e Acionistas; e Comunidade revelou-se mais importante que Fornecedores. Quanto ao Poder dos stakeholders, Funcionários podem ser mais poderosos que Clientes, que, por sua vez, podem ser mais poderosos que Fornecedores.
