Resumo: | This article presents a critical analysis of the research on the foreign direct investment effected by Brazilian companies. It has been done an extensive survey of the academic production in several Brazilian publications, as well as in annals of academic congresses and collections of theses and dissertations of the main Brazilian universities. In the same way, it also presents a revision concerning the main topics in the theory and the available statistical data. It is observed that, although the advance of the last years, the research on the subject still remains incipient and fragmented. It consists basically of single case studies, adopting as theoretical support the Behaviorist School. Finally, the last section of this article presents a proposal for a research agenda, pointing the main questions that remain in open as well as opportunities for future studies. |

Foi feito extenso levantamento da produção acadêmica em diversas publicações nacionais, bem como anais de congressos acadêmicos e acervos de teses e dissertações das principais universidades brasileiras. Apresenta-se também revisão acerca dos tópicos principais abordados na teoria e os dados estatísticos disponíveis. Observa-se que, apesar do avanço dos últimos anos, a pesquisa nacional sobre o tema encontra-se ainda incipiente e fragmentada. Constitui-se basicamente de estudos de caso único, adotando como suporte teórico a Escola Comportamentalista.
