From the early 1960s, the Popular Church organized and influenced the actions, ideas and objectives of the Brazilian civil society. From the Feminist Theology, the article reflects on the different ways which this praxis influenced, through principles, worldviews and methodologies, the actions performed by women in the 1980s who engaged in the Urban Popular Church in suburbs of cities which belonged to the diocese of Caxias do Sul. The study is bibliographic, documental and is analyzed through a perspective set in a social scene, as a woman concretely introduced in that context in order to answer the question of how the reality of women was considered in the Popular Church. The conclusion is that the poor, definitely, made the discovery of the reality of the women possible. The challenge remains for women to overcome the power relations paradigm in care giving.
