Resumo: | This paper approaches the possibility of black people self-esteem being built from the critical conscience on what means to be a black man or black woman in a country ruled not by the racial diversity, but by the supremacy of white values; which have the universal pattern of human being grounded in the figure of white people. In order to build the black people self-esteem, even though on the wrong way of the hegemonic power, it is necessary that the black people can be conscious of their racial belonging through the recognition of what has been the history of the black people in Brazil, as well as of their African ancestry. It is since a critical conscience that these people will be able to know each other better and, in that way, to self-value and self-estimate. |

It is since a critical conscience that these people will be able to know each other better and, in that way, to self-value and self-estimate.
