Association between academic stress and quality of life in health students

Resumo: Objective: to analyze the association between academic stress and quality of life of health students. Method: This is a quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study conducted between November and December 2021 with 34 students of health courses at a private college through a form for sociodemographic characterization; Instrument for Stress Assessment in Nursing Students and Quality of Life Assessment Instrument. The analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 20.0, using descriptive statistics and chi-square and fisher's exact test. . Results: There was a predominance of students with a high level of general stress (52.9%), high stress in theoretical activities (23.5%), very high stress in professional training (20.6%) and medium stress in performing practical activities (20%).  Students with moderate quality of life predominated (41.2%), followed by those with low quality of life (35.3%). A significant association was observed between academic stress and physical (p=0.02), psychological (p=0.02) and social relationships (p=0.007) quality of life. Conclusion: There was a statistically significant association between academic stress and quality of life of health students.

Método: Trata-se de um quantitativo, transversal e descritivo realizado entre novembro e dezembro de 2021 com 34 discentes de cursos da área de saúde de uma faculdade privada por meio de Formulário para caracterização sociodemográfica; Instrumento para Avaliação do Estresse em Estudantes de Enfermagem e Instrumento de Avaliação de Qualidade de Vida. A análise ocorreu no Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), versão 20.0, por meio de estatística descritiva e teste qui-quadrado e exato de fischer. Resultados:  Houve predomínio de discentes do com alto nível de estresse geral (52,9%), alto estresse nas atividades teóricas (23,5%), muito alto estresse na formação profissional (20,6%) e médio estresse na realização de atividades práticas (20%).  Predominaram alunos com moderada qualidade de vida(41,2%), seguido por aqueles com baixa qualidade de vida (35,3%). Observou-se associação significativa entre estresse acadêmico e qualidade de vida física (p=0,02), psicológica (p=0,02) e nas relações sociais (p=0,007).
