Resumo: The aim of this study is to present the limits imposed to the legal entity's registration officer when registering the social statutes of religious organizations. The research is justified by its theoretical and practical relevance, verified due to the lack of guidance to civil registrars of legal entities when receiving the constitutive acts of religious organizations, so as not to violate the fundamental right to religious freedom and respect the secularism of the Brazilian state. Using the deductive method, based on bibliographic and documentary research, it was possible to conclude that the registrar should always base his performance on legality, impartiality and proportionality, analyzing the statutes of religious organizations so as not to harm their entry in the Public Registry without foundation and in an unreasonable way, having to consider freedom of religion and belief; always respecting public order and the legitimate objectives of the organization to be registered.

A pesquisa justifica-se pela sua relevância teórica e prática, verificadas diante da falta de orientação aos registradores civis das pessoas jurídicas quando da recepção dos atos constitutivos de organizações religiosas, de modo a não violar o direito fundamental à liberdade religiosa e respeitar a laicidade do Estado brasileiro.
