Resumo: The present article aims to show that at the heart of the issue about the interactions between science and religion lies a question of rationality, as Joseph Ratzinger has shown, and that the problem between science and religion can be resolved by clarifying the object and meaning of both. To do this, I will begin by stating the epistemological situation of science and religion after modernity. Next, I will explain the three interaction paradigms: proposed by Barbour, Gould, and Peacocke. I will also show how Ratzinger's proposal could complement, integrate or correct those proposals – which would seem partial – under the paradigm of rationality. I seek to show that a reading of Ratzinger’s thought allows us to explain the problem of science and religion in terms that go beyond the dialogic perspective, to pose them existentially and vitally. Interdiscipline.El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar que, en el fondo de la cuestión sobre las interacciones entre ciencia y religión, subyace un problema de racionalidad, tal como lo ha mostrado Joseph Ratzinger, y que ese problema se resuelve esclareciendo el objeto y el sentido de ambas. Para ello, comenzaré planteando la situación epistemológica de la ciencia y la religión después de la modernidad. Más tarde, explicaré tres paradigmas de interacción, a saber, los propuestos por Barbour, Gould y Peacocke, así como el modo en el que Ratzinger podría complementar dichas propuestas –que parecerían parciales–, e integrarlas o corregirlas bajo el paradigma de la racionalidad. Busco mostrar que esta lectura del pensamiento de Ratzinger permite plantear el problema de ciencia y religión desde unos términos que superan la perspectiva dialógica para plantearlos existencial y vitalmente.
