Resumo: Tests of the electroflocculation technique were performed on the effluent from the washing of intermodal terminal machines with iron (Fe) and aluminum (Al) electrodes to determine which electrode would have better efficiency and viability of the effluent treatment rate. For the evaluation, pH, turbidity, conductivity, alkalinity and acidity were determined. In this work a bench electrolytic reactor was used in the experimental electroflocculation unit that consists of an acrylic reactor, with a capacity of 6 liters, measuring 30 cm x 15 cm x 20 cm with a sample collection point on the bottom side. The electrolytic cell has 6 iron or aluminum plates arranged in parallel with dimensions of 14 cm x 14 cm x 0.2 cm connected to an external alternating current power source. The results show an increase in pH and alkalinity, reduction in acidity and electric conductivity for both electrodes, however the iron had the better performance. In addition, in the turbidity analysis a reduction in the value for both electrodes, noticing better results for the iron electrode. In view of the results, it was found that iron has a better performance in efficiency and viability in the treatment of machine washing effluent by electroflocculation than aluminum.

In view of the results, it was found that iron has a better performance in efficiency and viability in the treatment of machine washing effluent by electroflocculation than aluminum.
