The educational status of children and young adults with disabilities in social care institutions

Resumo: The educational status of children and young adults with disabilities in social care institutions has been little studied and is a challenge to the inclusive context. This article aims to present the educational status of children and youth with disabilities found in social care institutions. Out of the 48 social care institutions identified, 24 reported having at least one child or young person with a disability. A total of 35 children and young people with some type of disability were found. The majority of children and youth with disabilities study in public schools. The gap between the chronological age and the school year is not significant and, when it exists, is associated more with school attendance than with academic performance.

Este artículo pretende presentar la situación educativa de niños y jóvenes con discapacidad que se encuentran en instituciones de acogida. Se identificaron 48 instituciones de este tipo. Entre ellas, 24 afirmaron poseer por lo menos un niño o joven con discapacidad. Se localizaron 35 niños y jóvenes con discapacidad. Los resultados revelaron que la gran mayoría de ellos está matriculada en escuelas públicas, aunque haya algunos fuera de la escuela. El desfase entre la edad cronológica y el año escolar encontrado se asocia más a la falta de assistência escolar que propiamente al rendimiento de los alumnos. La situation scolaire des enfants et des jeunes handicapés en accueil institutionnel reste peu étudiée et représente un défi pour l’inclusion scolaire. Cet article vise à présenter la situation scolaire d’ enfants et de jeunes handicapés. Parmi les 48 établissements. d’accueil identifiés, 24 affirment recevoir au moins un enfant ou un jeune handicapé. 35 enfants et adolescents handicapés ont pu être localisés. Les résultats ont montré que la grande majorité est inscrite dans une école publique, bien que certains d’entre eux ne soient pas scolarisés. L’écart entre l’âge chronologique des élèves et la classe fréquentée est associé plutôt au fait que ces élèves manquent les classes qu’aux résultats scolaires à proprement parler. A situação educacional de crianças e jovens com deficiência em acolhimento institucional tem sido pouco estudada e apresenta-se como um desafio ao contexto inclusivo. Este artigo visa a apresentar a situação educacional de crianças e jovens com deficiência que se encontram em instituições de acolhimento. 48 instituições de acolhimento foram identificadas. Destas, 24 afirmaram possuir pelo menos uma criança ou jovem com deficiência acolhido. Foram localizadas 35 crianças e jovens com deficiência. Os resultados revelaram que a grande maioria está matriculada em escola pública, embora existam alguns fora da escola.
