Religion and education in Brazil: a reading in journals (2003-2013)

Resumo: The article analyzes texts on the interface between religion and education in the areas of anthropology, education, history, and sociology. The investigation was conducted between 2003 and 2013, in journals of selective editorial policy. Based on the reading, Brazil is considered a very religious country, even though the traditional religions have lost space. Furthermore, it is noticeable that both spheres are marked by tension in which the demands of secular and religious orders are present, especially in terms of political and cultural identities. Brazilian religiosity is strong as a cultural practice, and faith, is for many, a respite in the moments of institutional and existential voids as well as an identity instrument.

La investigación se localiza entre el 2003 y el 2013, en revistas de selectiva política editorial. A partir de la lectura, se considera que Brasil es un país fuertemente religioso, aunque las religiones tradicionales hayan perdido espacio. Además, es perceptible que ambas esferas están marcadas por una tensión en que se encuentan presentes demandas de orden secular y religiosa, sobre todo en el ámbito de las identidades políticas y culturales. La religiosidad del brasileño se presenta fuerte como práctica de cultura, siendo la fe, para muchos, un aliento para los momentos de vacíos institucionales y existenciales, así como instrumento de identidad. L’article analyse des textes qui établissent une interface entre la religion et l’éducation dans les domaines de l’anthropologie, de l’éducation, de l’histoire et de la sociologie. La recherche, réalisée dans des périodiques  dont la politique éditoriale est sélective, se situe entre 2003 et 2013. À partir de cette lecture, nous considérons le Brésil un pays fortement religieux, bien que les religions traditionnelles aient reculé. Par ailleurs, il est perceptible que les deux sphères soient marquées par une tension où les demandes d’ordre séculaire et religieux sont présentes, surtout sur le plan des identités politiques et culturelles. La religiosité du Brésilien se montre forte en tant que pratique culturelle ; la foi étant, pour de nombreuses personnes, un soulagement lors des moments de vides institutionnel et existentiel, mais aussi en tant qu’instrument identitaire.   O artigo faz uma análise de textos que estabelecem interface entre religião e educação das áreas da antropologia, educação, história e sociologia. A investigação se localiza entre 2003 e 2013, em periódicos de seletiva política editorial. A partir da leitura, considera-se o Brasil um país fortemente religioso, ainda que as religiões tradicionais tenham perdido espaço. Ademais, é perceptível que ambas as esferas estejam marcadas por uma tensão em que demandas de ordem secular e religiosa estão presentes, sobretudo no plano das identidades políticas e culturais.
