Affection perceived and felt: representations of primary education students

Resumo: | Affections experienced by students in the school environment infl uence learning. This study sought to investigate how students perceive the learning environment and what feelings are involved in the relationship with learning, as well as to measure gender differences. Participants were 312 students from the 5th grade of primary education of three municipal schools in the interior of São Paulo state. The Free Word Association Technique was applied and results show that boys have more negative feelings and perceptions regarding school and the relationship with the teacher. Girls have more positive feelings and negative ones are directed towards themselves. By discussing the relationships between affectivity and cognition, this research contributes to the fi eld of teacher education. |

Los afectos experimentados por los alumnos en el entorno escolar infl uyen en el proceso de aprendizaje. Intentamos investigar cómo los estudiantes perciben el ambiente de aprendizaje y los sentimientos involucrados en la relación con el aprendizaje, así como medir las diferencias de género. Participaron 312 estudiantes del quinto grado de enseñanza fundamental de três escuelas municipales de una ciudad en el interior del estado de São Paulo. Se aplicó la Técnica de Asociación Libre de Palabras y los resultados muestran que los niños tienen sentimentos y percepciones más negativos con respecto a la escuela y a la relación con el profesor. Las niñas tienen sentimientos más positivos y los negativos se dirigen hacia ellas mismas. La investigación contribuye al área de la formación del profesorado al analizar la relación entre afectividad y cognición. Les sentiments des élèves dans l’environnement scolaire infl uencent le processus d’apprentissage. Le but de cette recherche est non seulement de comprendre comment les élèves perçoivent leur environnement d’apprentissags et quels sont les sentiments qui jouent un rôle dans le rapport à l’apprentissage, mais aussi de mesurer les différences entre les sexes. 312 élèves en 5e année de l’enseignement fondamental, provenant de trois écoles municipales de la ville de São Paulo, ont participé à cette étude. La technique d’association libre a été appliquée et les résultats montrent que les garçons ont des sentiments et des perceptions plus négatifs concernant l’école et le rapport aux l’enseignants. Les fi lles ont, en général, des sentiments plus positifs, même si elles éprouvent des sentiments négatifs envers elles-mêmes. En abordant la question des rapports entre affectivité et cognition, cette recherche contribue au domaine de la formation des enseignants. Buscou-se investigar como os estudantes percebem o ambiente da aprendizagem e quais os sentimentos envolvidos na relação com o aprender, bem como mensurar as diferenças de gênero. Participaram 312 alunos do 5º ano do ensino fundamental de três escolas municipais de cidade no interior de São Paulo. Foi aplicada a Técnica de Associação Livre de Palavras e os resultados evidenciam que os meninos têm sentimentos e percepções mais negativas relativas à escola e ao relacionamento com o professor. As meninas têm sentimentos mais positivos e os negativos são direcionados para si.
