Injustice, conflict and violence: a case study in public school in Recife

Resumo: The article presents partial results of a study based on a case study in a statepublic school in Recife (PE). The data show that the school actors refer to a sense of injustice, relating it to a decrease in well-being, which may generate conflicts and violence in the school setting. High school students, teachers and administrators were informally interviewed in the intervals between classes. This was done in order to conduct this activity in its natural setting, as well as to avoid violating ethical principles of research. Teachers and the headmistress were also interviewed using a semi-structured instrument. The study concludes that justice in the school context should be viewed from its multidimensional nature and ambiguity, limiting the ability to intervene, thus often leading school actors to justify unfair practices.

Los datos ponen de manifiesto que los actores escolares hacen referencia al sentimento de injusticia y lo relacionan con la reducción del bienestar, lo que puede generar conflictos y violencia en el espacio escolar. Fueron entrevistados alumnos de secundaria, profesores y gestores, de manera informal, en intervalos entre las clases, con miras a realizar dicha actividad en su ambiente natural, así como para evitar herir principios éticos de la investigación. También fueron entrevistadas profesoras y la directora, por medio de instrumento semiestructurado. El estudio concluye que la justicia en el contexto escolar debe observarse en su pluridimensionalidad y la falta de claridad en este sentido limita la capacidad de intervención para su minimización, lo que muchas veces hace que los actores escolares justifiquen prácticas injustas.  L’article présente les résultats partiaux de recherche basés sur l’étude de cas réalisé dans l’école publique de l’état de Recife (PE). Les données mettent en évidence que les acteurs scolaires font référence à un sentiment d’injustice, en le rapportant à la réduction du bienêtre, ce qui peut engendrer des conflits et de la violence dans l’espace scolaire. Ont été interviewés les élèves de lycée, les enseignants et le personnel de gestion, de manière informelle, dans les intervalles entre les cours, en cherchant à réaliser cette activité dans son environnement naturel, ainsi qu’à éviter d’endommager les príncipes éthiques de la recherche. Ont été également interviewées les institutrices et la directrice par la voie de l’instrument semi structuré. L’étude conclut que la justice dans le contexte scolaire doit être observée dans sa pluridimensionalité et que l’absence de netteté par rapport à elle restreint la capacité d’intervention pour sa minimisation, en conduisant les acteurs scolaires, souvent, à justifier des conduites injustes.  O artigo apresenta resultados parciais de pesquisa com base em estudo de caso realizado em escola pública estadual de Recife (PE). Os dados evidenciam que os atores escolares fazem referência ao sentimento de injustiça, relacionando-o à redução do bem-estar, o que pode gerar conflitos e violências no espaço escolar. Foram entrevistados alunos do ensino médio, professores e gestores, de maneira informal, em intervalos entre aulas, visando a realizar essa atividade em seu ambiente natural, bem como evitando ferir princípios éticos da pesquisa. Também foram entrevistadas professoras e a diretora por meio de instrumento semiestruturado.
