Resumo: The text begins by posing the extra difficulties in the study of classical texts and then locates the birth of philosophy as simultaneously rhetoric and ontology, which means to understand rhetoric as a form of philosophy. Then it analyzes the structure and function of rhetoric, as well as its means, ethos, pathos and logos, and its enthymematic form. The article concludes with the relations between ethics and rhetoric, contrary to the prevailing Aristotelian tradition.
