Mediation of information and competences in the reference sector of university libraries

Resumo: | It presents the results of research carried out with librarians who work in the reference sector of university libraries. The objective was to develop information skills in these professionals through a formative action, in order to provide the establishment of information mediator skills in their work activities. The methodological assumptions used were: qualitative approach, participant research method and non participant observation technique. The data were collected through interview scripts, prospecting forms and field diary, and treated by the content analysis technique with category establishment. The results demonstrate that the training given to the research participants contributed to the rethinking and reflection on the actions, knowledge, skills and attitudes that involve the activities of the referral service. It is worth mentioning that the exchange of experiences among librarians, facilitated by the training, as well as the exposure and discussion of theoretical knowledge of the area and of the reference sector, provided a better understanding of the issues inherent to this area, as well as the strengthening of the praxis and the performance of the librarian in order to deepen their relationship with the user in order to better serve him. It is concluded that it is imperative to have professionals with technical and behavioral skills that stimulate the user to return and to continue in the search and production of knowledge. |

Objetivou-se desenvolver competências em informação nesses profissionais por meio de uma ação formativa, a fim de proporcionar o estabelecimento de habilidades de mediador da informação em suas atividades laborais. Os pressupostos metodológicos utilizados foram: abordagem qualitativa, método pesquisa participante e técnica de observação não participante. Os dados foram coletados por meio de roteiros de entrevista, formulários de prospecção e diário de campo, e tratados pela técnica análise do conteúdo com estabelecimento de categorias. Os resultados demonstram que a formação ministrada para os participantes da pesquisa contribuiu para o repensar e o refletir sobre as ações, conhecimentos, habilidades e atitudes que envolvem as atividades do serviço de referência. Salienta-se que a troca de experiências entre os bibliotecários, oportunizada pela formação, e ainda, a exposição e discussão de conhecimentos teóricos da área e próprios do setor de referência, propiciaram um maior entendimento acerca das questões inerentes a este espaço, bem como o fortalecimento da práxis e da atuação do bibliotecário numa perspectiva de aprofundar sua relação com o usuário de modo a melhor atendê-lo.
