Resumo: | The attention in this paper is focused on some cultural categories by means of wich the Brazilian folklorist Luis da Câmara Cascudo (1898-1986) describes and analyses the social and cultural meanings of objects and experiences of popular culture in Brazil, especially those related to food. I suggest that his works on such topics can be better understood as a kind of native ethnography, rather than as pieces of an out-of-date theoretical analysis. In this sense his writings might be read not only as a rich source of etnography, rather than as pieces of an out-of-date theoretical analysis. In this sense his writings might be read not only as a rich source of ethnographic information on Brazilian folklore, but also as insightful contributions to an anthropological understanding of traditional as well as modern Brazilian popular cultures. |

Sugiro que os escritos etnográficos desse autor seriam melhor entendidos como documentos etnográficos nativos, mais do que simplesmente estudos datados do ponto de vista teórico.
