The appraisal as a process for securing a better quality of public health services

Resumo: With the study is started a process for quality appraisal of services rendered by Centro de Atenção Psicossocial Prof. Luiz da Rocha Cerqueira, unit of the State Secretary of Health, in the State of São Paulo, a structure intermediating in the assistance to patients with serious psychiatrical problems. It is shown that the proposed methodology may help in the assessment of services either of similar or more differentiated characteristics, since it has a simple design allowing an uncomplicated follow-up, at the same time using an instrument for data collection also simple, with a view at the yearly regularity for comparison of information. The study was oriented in a way considering the opinion of professionals of health, of patients and their relatives or responsible persons, through the employment of simple and quantifiable instruments. It suggests that criteria such as clinical evolution, quality of life and social status be considered in the formulation of indicators for technological assessment of the available services.
