The World Bank and the reorganization of the field of international health agencies: a multi-paradigmatic analysis

Resumo: This paper explains how the World Bank entered the field of international health agencies, becoming the hegemonic organization and reorganizing the field in only one decade. Three theoretical approaches with different paradigmatic conceptions — institutionalism, power fields theory, and critical discourse theory — are used to analyze this case. This procedure reveals the different implications of choosing a theoretical approach for analysis, interms of understanding not only the object of the analysis but also the construction of the viewpoint of the subject that analyzes.
