Moral harassment degrading work relations: a case study in the Judiciary

Resumo: This article intends to show how public servants in a Brazilian judiciary bureau have experienced moral harassment. Moral harassment is a phenomenon known as a degrader of work relations and causer of physical and moral harms to an individual¿s health. Therefore, a qualitative case study ¿ in which the accounts were collected from a focus group of harassed public servants and members of the Judiciary Public Servants Union ¿ is the groundwork of this paper. The collected data was analyzed through the discourse elements and grouped in three main tracks: harasser¿s profile, behavior, and the consequences of the moral harassment. It could be observed that moral harassment can corrupt work relations, especially because of the harasser¿s impunity, causing a feeling of helplessness to the public servants and bringing them physical and psychological consequences. Such torment may haunt these people even upon their removal to another workplace.

Este assédio é conhecido como um fenômeno degradador das relações de trabalho, que adoece os indivíduos, causando danos à saúde física e psíquica. Foi um estudo de caso qualitativo, no qual os relatos foram coletados por meio de um grupo focal, com servidores assediados e membros do Sindicato dos Servidores do Poder Judiciário. Os dados foram analisados com elementos do discurso e agrupados em três grandes temas: perfil, comportamento do assediador e conseqüências do assédio moral.
