Resumo: This paper aims to present a discussion about control theory in organization studies. In order to do it, we will propose two perspectives: one focused in coordinative and functional aspects of control in organization; and another focused in contradiction and in social aspects of the organizational control. The first is the traditional point of view in terms of Organizational Theory, which will be called “Functionalist Perspective”, and the second, named here “Critical Perspective”, is a non-traditional point of view. To represent the second perspective, we will present an Organizational Theory called “Political Economy of Power”.

Definiremos, assim, o termo com base em duas diferentes perspectivas, uma de cunho funcionalista, com ênfase nos aspectos coordenativos e funcionais do controle em relação ao organismo organizacional, e uma segunda de cunho crítico, enfatizando a explicitação das contradições sociais inerentes ao fenômeno.
