Resumo: When UNICAMP instituted its Architecture and Urbanism course, an unconventional principle was applied, which recognized its interdisciplinary role and established a new approximation between architecture and the knowledge of arts, technique, and history. Instead of setting up an autonomous college or institute, the university proposed a course simultaneously consisting of three areas of knowledge: the arts, history, and engineering. From this tripartite operation, in the didactic experience object of this present account, we have kept the interdisciplinary principle allied to the identity and the specificity of the profession. It is about the discipline "Introduction to Architecture", the first one in a sequence of ten design studios. Here, we will expose the objectives, contents, purposes, strategies and procedures of the discipline. With its introductory nature to design as a process and to architecture as a phenomenon, the studio has as an object "the commencement of the architectonic thinking and execution". The critical and conceptual reflections are developed interactively with the design praxis, mediated by the instruments of representation. It is and ongoing coming and going experience, from the abstract forms of thinking to the materiality forged. In our hypothesis of architectural design as composition, and architecture as organized construction, we promote approximations, enriching the "˜repertoire"™. Taught by architect lecturers from both the Institute of Arts and the Engineering College, the discipline covers, by creative action, universes of long-standing knowledge in the areas of the arts and technique, applying the proposed instruments of project in the setting and simulation of form and space. Instead of creating new instruments of project, we promote their specific guidance and emphasis. In this process, we have managed to testify the students"™ success in the acquisition of specific abilities in a short period and before the fundamentals have been fully developed. Applying the didactic strategy of "learning by doing", the students perform three distinct creative and analytical experiments: a bi-dimensional composition exercise; a reading and analysis of architectural "˜repertoire"™; and an exercise of built space proposition based on the decomposition and re-composition of pure geometricsolids.

Ao invés de uma unidade autônoma, propôs um curso integrado por três áreas de conhecimento: a arte, a história e a engenharia. Dessa operação tripartite mantém-se, na experiência didática objeto desse relato, o princípio interdisciplinar harmonizado com a identidade e especificidade da profissão de arquiteto. Trata-se da disciplina "Introdução í  Arquitetura", primeira na sequência de dez projetos do curso: serão aqui expostos seus objetivos, conteúdos, processos, estratégias e procedimentos. Introdutória ao projeto enquanto processo e í  arquitetura enquanto fenômeno, seu objeto é a "iniciação ao pensar e fazer arquitetônico". Nela, a reflexão crítica e conceitual é desenvolvida interativamente com a prática do projetar, sempre mediada pelos instrumentos de representação. É um processo de constante ir e vir das formas abstratas do pensamento í  materialidade construída. A partir da hipótese do projeto enquanto composição e da arquitetura enquanto construção, promovem-se aproximações com exemplares referenciais, enriquecendo repertórios. Ministrada concomitantemente por arquitetos do Instituto de Artes e da Faculdade de Engenharia, a disciplina percorre, pela ação criativa, universos de conhecimentos consagrados nas áreas da arte e da técnica, aplicando os instrumentos propositivos do projeto, na configuração e simulação da forma e do espaço. Ao invés de pretender criar novos instrumento de projeto promove-se um particular agenciamento e ênfase í queles já consagrados. Foipossível constatar o êxito dos estudantes na aquisição das habilidades específicas, em curto espaço de tempo e antecipadamente ao desenvolvimento mais amplo de fundamentos.
