Resumo: The family Plumbaginaceae is formed by herbs, shrubs or subshrubs with cosmopolitan distribution. Its metabolic production is characterized by the presence of naphthoquinones, flavonoids, terpenoids and steroids, the formers being considered the chemosystematic markers for the group. The genus Plumbago, comprises approximately 10 species, and has already shown some chemical and pharmacological studies. Phytochemical studies of P. auriculata resulted on the isolation of sitosterol, stigmasterol; 3-O-glycosylsistosterol, palmitic acid; plumbagic acid, epi-isoshinanolone, plumbagin, and a mixture of two flavonoids (luteolin and 5-methoxyluteolin). Although these compounds have been previously reported in literature, this is the first report of the isolation of luteolin and 5-methoxyluteolin in P. auriculata.
