Resumo: | The innate immune system recognizes chemical structures of the virus and activates cells capable of blocking viral infection, it also activates the adaptive immune system that develops antibodies that can destroy or immobilize viruses. Analogously, chemical components of plants and yeasts in natural products can act as activators of the immune system, which could provide a defence against infection. Herein we examine various natural products from food and medicinal plants whose chemical components can possibly contribute in the defence against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. |

COVID-1 O sistema imune inato reconhece estruturas químicas dos vírus, ativando células capazes de bloquear a infecção viral, e ativa, também, o sistema imune adaptativo a desenvolver anticorpos que destroem ou imobilizam os vírus. De forma análoga, os componentes químicos de produtos naturais derivados de plantas e de leveduras podem agir como ativadores do sistema imune, ativando a defesa contra infecção viral.
