Paranoid Schizophrenia: Case report and Literature Review

Introduction: Schizophrenia has as a main finding a strong loss of contact with reality through the loss of the ordinary forms of ideas. It is common the appearance of immeasurable ambitions which can lead to megalomania as well as the appearing of persecution deliria. Methods: Interview with patient, bibliographical review and revision of medical records. Case Report: A homeless patient who had her first crisis during adolescence was admitted with report of several hospitalizations due to her denial of the disease and very low adhesion to treatment for having no social support. Conclusion: By means of internments as well as regular administration of medications, the patient has reduced her aggressiveness, irritability, showing a better control and fewer fights with other patients. Nevertheless, we could not interfere in social context. Without family, without money and unable to do any kind of activity when discharged from the institution she just wanders along the streets where she has several sexual partners and gets the risk of pregnancy, as has already occurred. This report shows the importance of the correct use of therapy and the importance of thepsychotherapic support when dealing with Paranoid Schizophrenia.
