Factors associated with the motivation of blood donation

Resumo: The search for blood donors is an action-oriented individuals’ awareness of the importance of voluntary donation, through programs that encourage the commitment of donors. Objectives: To identify the reasons why volunteers Regional Blood Center Field (HRC) to donate blood and what factors diminish their loyalty. Methods: A descriptive study design with prospective blood donors seen at the HRC and evaluated by interview shortly after the donation. Results: Of the 100 people interviewed, 69% were men and 31% women, and among them, 56% donated by solidarity, family needs by 42% and 2% by reciprocity and among them, 54% donated by solidarity and 46% for family needs . Insecurity was uncommon among donors (10%) of these, 7% were afraid of needle, 2% scared of fainting and 1% fear of contamination. Donors with access to advertising HRC were 43% and 32% for TV, radio 3%, 2% newspaper, poster 2% and other 4%. In the process of donation: 95% good and 5% found bad. Donors who found bad were those who did not intend to donate again, and the pain (4%) the main reason. Conclusions: The biggest reason for blood donation was solidarity, followed by the need to meet the family. 10% of donors who were unsure, 5% do not intend to donate more. The rise of television campaigns informing about the safety of the procedure and the need for commitment of donors may be necessary strategy to expand donations.

Objetivos: Identificar os motivos que levam os voluntários do Hemocentro Regional de Campos (HRC) a doarem sangue e quais os fatores que diminuem sua fidelização. Métodos: Estudo descritivo, com delineamento prospectivo, em doadores de sangue atendidos no HRC e avaliados por entrevista logo após a doação. Resultados: Das 100 pessoas entrevistadas, 69% eram homens e 31% mulheres; entre eles, 56% doaram por solidariedade, 42% por necessidades familiares e 2% por reciprocidade e entre elas, 54% doaram por solidariedade e 46% por necessidades familiares. A insegurança foi pouco frequente entre os doadores (10%), desses, 7% tiveram medo de agulha, 2% medo de desmaiar e 1% medo de contaminação. Os doadores com acesso à propaganda do HRC foram 43%, sendo por televisão 32%, rádio 3%, jornal 2%, cartaz 2% e outros 4%. No processo de doação: 95% acharam bom e 5% ruim. Os doadores que acharam ruim foram aqueles que não pretendem doar novamente, sendo a dor (4%) o principal motivo. Conclusões: O maior motivo para doação de sangue foi a solidariedade, seguido da necessidade de atender aos familiares.
