Common genetic aspects between autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: integrative review

Resumo: The early diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Down syndrome (DS) (or both) in children and their follow-up are essential for their development and maintenance of quality of life. This study aimed to report the experience of the students from the “Liga Acadêmica de Genética Médica”, which provides outpatient care for patients in Olinda, Pernambuco, between March and November 2022.Patients with ASD and DS presents comorbidities that requires referrals to other specialities to provide regular and specialized follow-up. As a result, the students improved their services, especially in genetics, making it more humanitarian and integral. This improvement was due to the growing demand for referrals to other specialties that these patients need because of their comorbidities, seeking regular and specialized follow-up.

This improvement was due to the growing demand for referrals to other specialties that these patients need because of their comorbidities, seeking regular and specialized follow-up. Objetivo: A análise dos estudos selecionados, em relação à etiologia genética da associação do transtorno do espectro autista e transtorno do deficit de atenção e hiperatividade foi realizada de forma descritiva, possibilitando observar, descrever e classificar os dados, com o objetivo de unir o conhecimento sobre o tema. Metodologia: Foi feita uma dupla revisão da literatura nas bases de dados BVS e PubMed. Para a pesquisa na BVS foram utilizados os seguintes descritores e operadores booleanos: (Transtorno Autístico) OR (Transtorno do Espectro Autista) AND (Transtorno do Déficit de Atenção com Hiperatividade) AND (Estudos de Associação Genética) OR (Genética) OR (Hereditariedade). Já para a busca no PubMed foram utilizados: ("Autism Spectrum Disorder") AND ("Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity") AND ("Genetic Association Studies") OR Genetics OR Heredity). Resultados: Foram recuperados 75 artigos, sendo 54 da BVS e 21 do PubMed. Destes, 57 foram descartados a partir da leitura dos títulos e resumos, restando 18, dos quais, após a leitura completa, 9 foram incluídos. Discussão: As mutações gênicas ‘de novo’ são comprovadamente contribuintes para o transtorno do espectro autista e algumas evidências as colocam como possíveis determinantes para o transtorno do déficit de atenção e hiperatividade. Os genes RFX3, RFX4 e RFX7 encontrados em células do córtex cerebral de fetos e em adultos, contribuem para a comunicação de regiões importantes à cognição e comportamento social.
