Resumo: In the writing of his dialogues Plato applies a significant variety of resources, whether imagistic or theoretical, to support his ideas. The present paper aims to recover the ways in which the Greek philosopher uses two discursive genres to support his theories: display and demonstration. In the process of re-elaborating the image of eros in the Symposium, Plato performs a drama of exposition by the use of epideixis, the Greek word for display, and apodeixis, the Greek word for demonstration. He thereby creates an inseparable and interlocking bond between these two rhetorical genres, as if there were no limits or distinctions between them.
