Resumo: | School material culture participates in the teaching-learning process, but investigations that analyse school practices using artefacts as research sources are not common. When researchers study school practices, records are scarce, so in many situations it is only possible to locate traces of these practices in teaching objects forgotten in school closets and basements. Information on school practices has been lost over time and this is one reason for the urgency of expanding research sources on this topic. The objective of this work is to verify the practices of teaching science at the Raul Saddi State School, located in the city of Diadema/SP, in the period 1974-2012, using school material culture, memory reports and class diaries as sources. The work was developed in two stages: the first was the characterization of the school's historical collection of science teaching objects and the choice of the most significant artefacts for that community; the second was the direct analysis of the objects and carrying out interviews to compose the analyses. The investigation showed that a dental arch and a bisexual torso were the objects most mentioned by the subjects investigated in the research. The marks of use of the materials and the interviews showed the disputes over the meaning of objects and the science curriculum, especially when it came to teaching the characteristics of the human body. |

The investigation showed that a dental arch and a bisexual torso were the objects most mentioned by the subjects investigated in the research. The marks of use of the materials and the interviews showed the disputes over the meaning of objects and the science curriculum, especially when it came to teaching the characteristics of the human body.
